Balancing Art and Life: My Crazy Week of Moving and Juggling

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing great. This past week has been nothing short of a whirlwind for me. Between moving, transporting art, and trying to fit everything into my already packed schedule, I've learned a lot about balance, setting boundaries, and the logistics of moving art across state lines.

The Art of Moving Art

Moving is always a challenge, but when you're an artist, it takes on a whole new level of complexity. Packing up my studio and safely transporting my precious pieces feels like a high-stakes game of Tetris. I’m talking about bubble wrap, cardboard, and some serious strategic planning. Every time I loaded another box into the truck, I couldn’t help but think, “Please, don’t let anything get damaged!”

One thing I quickly learned was how expensive it can be to move larger pieces of art. Researching the best methods and services for transporting these pieces was crucial. I spent hours looking up moving companies that specialize in art, and let me tell you, it's not cheap. But it's worth every penny to ensure your art arrives safely.

Protecting Your Art in Transit

Here are some essential tips I gathered during my research to protect your art during a move:

  • Use High-Quality Materials: Invest in high-quality packing materials like sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, and corner protectors. This isn’t the time to skimp.

  • Wrap Each Piece Carefully: Each piece should be individually wrapped in bubble wrap, with special attention to corners and edges.

  • Use Custom Crates for Large Pieces: For particularly large or valuable pieces, custom wooden crates provide the best protection. These can be pricey but are worth the investment.

  • Label Everything: Clearly label all your boxes and crates with “Fragile” and indicate which side should be up.

  • Consider Climate Control: If you're moving during extreme weather conditions, consider climate-controlled transport to prevent any damage from heat or cold.

Juggling a Busy Schedule

Aside from the upcoming move, life didn’t pause. There were meetings, deadlines, and everyday responsibilities that needed my attention. Trying to fit in my creative sessions was like trying to squeeze into my favorite jeans after a holiday feast – challenging but not impossible. This week, I had to remind myself that it's okay not to be in constant creation mode. Sometimes, life gets in the way, and that's perfectly fine.

Art is my passion and career choice, but it’s something I do part-time. Balancing this with other responsibilities can be tricky. I’ve realized how crucial it is to set boundaries. This means not beating myself up when I can’t spend as much time on my art as I’d like. Life is about balance, and sometimes, other responsibilities need to take the front seat.

Don’t Beat Yourself Up

If you’re like me, juggling art with other aspects of your life, here’s a little advice: don’t beat yourself up over a lack of creative output. There will be weeks where you’re not as productive, and that’s okay. Remember why you started creating in the first place – for the love of it. Creativity isn’t something you can force; it needs space to breathe and grow.

Despite the chaos, there were moments of joy. Seeing my art safely settled in its new home was a relief. Plus, the new space has already sparked some fresh ideas. Sometimes, a change of scenery is all you need to reignite that creative spark.

This upcoming month I feel...is going to teach me that balance and boundaries are key. Life will always throw curveballs, but it’s how we handle them that counts. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a step back, breathe, and give yourself some grace. Your creativity will come back when the time is right.

Until next time, keep creating, stay balanced, and don’t forget to set those boundaries. Catch you all next Tuesday for another update and a new podcast episode to kickstart your day.

Love you all!
